ThE FuN SiDe

I am a simple country girl who likes to have fun by going four wheeler riding or just hanging out with friends.  I stay on the lake or river pretty much the whole summer.  Most of my friends like to go out on the lake to fish or go turf tubing. By the way that stuff is scary the first time you do it.  My first time I really thought I was going to die.  You have no control in where you land and everything happens so fast.   My best friend always make sure I am having fun while I am out for school or even off from work.  Being able to get a break from school really helps me relax and get ready for the next semester.  I want my own truck and four wheeler one day.  I think it would be fun just to be able to go do whatever I want instead of having to find someone with a truck or four wheeler.  I hope you have enjoyed learning a little bit more about me.

Video: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

This video is about a teacher named Vikki Davis. She lives in a rural south town in Georgia.  She is getting her students involved with every kind of technology that there is.  She believes that students that have only pencil and paper are only a few, the other students learn by different technologies.  She focuses on teaching them new software such as using Wikki correctly and learning how to blog correctly and many different other software.  She tries to make the students feel very comfortable with learning the new technologies and applying them to everyday work.  She also has her students share information and blog to other students across the world.  I believe that Vikki Davis has a great way of showing how to use technology for many different things.  Technology is not just for chatting with people and doing homework assignments it can be so much more. I hope when I become a teacher I will use technology in a way that Vikki Davis does.  I like that Vikki Davis taught her students about blogging and using video chats to communicate with others across the world.  This give students a chance to react with other students and a great learning opportunity to learn from a different country.  I believe that technology is just going to become more advanced as the future approaches.  We need to get students involved as soon as possible!

Social networking has hidden dangers for teens

From behind doors, more than 1 out of every 10 teenagers has posted a nude picture or seminude picture of themselves or of other people online.  By them doing this it could haunt them for the rest of their lives.  The survey also found that at least a quarter of the young people polled had posted something they later regretted, made fun of other online or created a false identity.  Teenagers do not seem aware of the long term effect with just a click of a button.  And parents generally have any idea what their children are up to the poll found.  "We've got to stop kidding ourselves about this." said James Steyer, chief economic officer and founder of San Francisco-based Common Sense Media.  "There are enormous consequences from inappropriate behavior online.  Social networking sites allow members to create individualized pages that often include information such as relationship status, address, age, and birthdate, as well as photos, videos or personnel comments.  Maxwell Wallace wanted to know more about his new roommate so instead of  calling him and talking to him all he had to do was get on Facebook.  This network told him everything he needed to know such as what his friends said about him, what his pictures were and what kind of lifestyle.  Teenagers don't always self-censor online, they might bully classmates, for example or post bad photos of themselves or peers.  Teenagers take more risk and do riskier things online, however there are consequences someday an employer or college admission office might come across an unpleasant picture with a quick click on google.  Hitting delete to get a rid of the picture or pictures won't help.  The digital  imprint never goes away and could be all over the world.  Teenagers need to be aware of this so  Steyer started an organization a pilot program this fall to bring media literacy into public school classrooms.  This would be a great way to show the awareness of doing things online.  A father said "What worries me the most is that kids will give out information that should be kept private, thinking they may be doing so privately".  Wallace said that social-networking sites can be valuable, providing support and community- positive factors in a teenager's life.

I believe that there is good things about social networking and there are some bad also, for example the good things are finding old friends, getting to talk to family members that live across the state and keeping up with events in your friends lives and that they can do the same.  The bad is mean people getting your information and doing something to harm you or your family.  Seeing unpleasant photos or videos of people, and that people can talk about you on the network and there is no way to really stop it.  That is how cyber bullying works and it gets to people everyday.  If we could clean up the social network by having censor on things I think it would make social life a little bit better.

The Dangers of Sharing

In this article they are talking about Internet Companies sharing information when the information is supposed to be set to private.  Lori Andrews talks about issues that go beyond privacy such as including discrimination in the workplace.  One of her questions asks is it valid to expect judges to refrain from "friending" lawyers they work with?  Should sitting jurors be prevented from using social media?  If a parent once wrote on Twitter that he or she didn't want children, should that statement be admissible in custody hearings?  By asking these questions she is stating that internet companies and other sources should not be able to bring up old history and use any information to make a decision.  Andrew has even a larger point than that and it is that our cherished rights have been curtailed in cyberspace, and she says we need to take them back.  Andrew argues that internet companies are in for the money and not to change the world, as many of them claim.  She proposes the we have a social constitution .  "The Right to Connect" proposes that "no government shall abridge the right to connect, nor shall a government monitor exchanges over the internet or code them as a source or content.  "In essence, it demands that governments keep off the internet.  But how would this work in other countries who don't have as much freedom of speech as the United States?  Many European nations, for example place restrictions on Holocaust denial or hate speech.  Andrews's account is predominately United States-centric.  Andrew proposes that each individual shall have control over his or her image from a social network, including the image created by data aggregation.  Many feel that these Rights are not going to work because most people are willing to surrender their privacy in exchange for coupons, food, free music and videos, or simple book recommendations.  Even if enshrined in a constitution it is not going to be enough however, she did make some valid points about privacy being exploited

I believe that Lori Andrews has made some good points.  I have heard stories of how people or businesses will get on the internet just find out information or try to find something bad on a person or persons.  I also know that nothing is going to change that because the internet is open for anyone and whatever you put on the internet does not go away so be careful what you put out their.
